Dental practice owners have refurbished a listed building to enable the expansion of their business.
Jarlath McAteer and Jamie Dury, co-owners of Union Quay Dental in Fish Quay, North Tyneside, have invested in structural and technology upgrades of the practice.
The work, carried out by BH Projects and Prodrive Shopfitting, included the installation of new dental chairs and intra‑oral cameras, digital scanners, and X‑ray systems as part of efforts to increase clinical capacity.
The clinic is also now equipped with an occlusal analyser, allowing clinicians to assess patients’ bite dynamics in real time, as well as a new digital workflow system.
McAteer, who, alongside Dury, bought the practice in 2025, said the refurbishment brought challenges as the building is Grade II listed.
He added: “This was far more than a cosmetic refurbishment.
“The building was completely stripped back and rebuilt internally, including new drainage, full rewiring and modern digital infrastructure.
“As a listed building, the project presented some challenges, but the investment ensures we now have facilities and technology that match the high standard of care we want to provide.”
Dury added: “Our aim is to build a modern independent dental practice that combines technology with a highly skilled clinical team.
“We are continuing to develop specialist expertise and are actively expanding our team to support growing patient demand.”
