mydentist and Overjet have announced a new partnership which will see the largest rollout of AI radiology in UK dentistry history.
The collaboration will give clinicians practising at mydentist access to Overjet’s real-time AI analysis to help highlight potential areas of interest such as caries, calculus, bone levels, periapical radiolucencies (PARLs) anatomical structures, and more.
The Overjet technology will be integrated with mydentist’s practice management and digital imaging systems to ensure the best-possible user experience.
Through this integration, clinicians will be able to use Overjet as an assistive tool that flags potential findings on radiographs.
These AI-powered visual cues are designed to complement clinical expertise, supporting the dental team in their assessment while ensuring that all diagnostic decisions remain solely with the clinician.
In addition, the highlighted findings can be shared with patients, helping them clearly see and understand the areas identified on their radiographs and supporting patient communication and engagement.
According to Overjet’s recent Patient Survey, 85% of patients are more likely to accept care when they can visualise their conditions.
And providers using Overjet’s AI for patient education and treatment presentation see an average 27% increase in case acceptance.
Nyree Whitley, chief clinical officer at mydentist, said: “We’re continually looking to enhance and improve our digital workflow at mydentist – so our new partnership with Overjet is an exciting step forward in our overall digital transformation.
“One of the biggest ways that this will support clinicians is through acting like an assistant with all of the benefits of AI, but with the advantage of being trained by industry-leading clinicians.
“We’re looking forward to working with Overjet to bring a more-powerful diagnostic solution to our clinicians and not only improving efficiencies and workflow, but also shaping the future of dentistry.”
Dr Gordon Barfield, senior clinical manager at Overjet, added: “From a clinical perspective, artificial intelligence applied to dental radiographs is one of the most-powerful ways to help patients truly understand their care.
“When findings are clearly annotated with visual overlays, the entire care team – dentists, hygienists, and assistants – can communicate more effectively, align around diagnosis, and ultimately improve patient oral health.”
Overjet will initially be available to clinicians practising at over 100 mydentist practices, with a view of rolling the technology out across the whole mydentist estate in the future.
